Mass Exorcism Planned for Parliament House PDF Print E-mail

The man who convinced Peter Costello to record a gushing Australia Day message for his congregation, Pastor Danny Nalliah, is now exhorting his followers to attend a mass spiritual exorcism of the federal Parliament in October. On his Catch the Fire Ministries website*, Pastor Nalliah claims to have uncovered evidence that a coven of Canberra witches has been making blood sacrifices on a hilltop overlooking the federal Parliamentary triangle, in an attempt to hex the House.

“The Spirit of God has been revealing to me that the whole nation is under a curse because the witchcraft covens from Mount Ainsley (sic) in Canberra are cursing the Federal Parliament, which is the heartbeat of Australia where decisions are being made that effect the whole nation”, said Pastor Nalliah.

Pastor Nalliah claims the witches have been sacrificing animals while chanting their parliamentary spells and produced photos of blood stained concrete bollards on Mt Ainslie to back his case.

Australian Sex Party convenor, Fiona Patten, said that the Speaker of House and the President of the Senate should investigate the issue immediately before people started burning effigies and making the parliamentary triangle the laughing stock of the nation. There was already evidence of Hillsong and other large evangelical groups getting involved. One Catch the Fire member had even tried to encourage Pastor Nalliah to slaughter livestock around Parliament in an effort to combat the Canberra witches.

“The former Treasurer has forever linked the federal parliament to this religious cult and their insane manifesto”, she said. “Mr Costello’s promotional video is still the most prominent feature on their website. In Oct 2007 Nalliah led a prayer meeting of 600 in the Great Hall of Parliament House that attracted a message of support from former Prime Minister John Howard. He is still considered to be the heir to Senator Fielding, should he resign.

Ms Patten said that Nalliah’s comments were designed to arouse religious extremists that he could not control and that his statement, “I believe God has given us a strategic spiritual warfare assignment to take back the high places in our nation”, was irresponsible and inflammatory. “If this statement had been made on a Muslim website or by a Muslim cleric, it would be seen as a call to Jihad and evidence of terrorist activity”, she said.

Ms Patten said that with 50% of federal MPs belonging to the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship, including the Prime Minister, Tony Abbot, Peter Costello and many other senior MPs, Christian groups had access to influence government policy that was way outside their representation in the general community. She re stated her claim that there was an urgent need for the Speaker of the House and President of the Senate to open an enquiry into the effect of religious groups on the culture of the federal parliament.
