One of the biggest names in Australian comedy, Austen Tayshus, (aka Alexander Gutman) will run for the Australian Sex Party in the seat of Warringah at the coming federal election.

He cited the increasing Nanny State attitudes of both major parties and the personal freedom platform of the Sex Party as his main reasons for a tilt at public office. “ I’m sick of the fact that in the year 2010, gay and lesbian people cannot marry or adopt children, I’m sick of the fact that Australian jails are 70% filled with drug offenders and I’m sick of the fact that those who are sick cannot access medicinal marihuana. And when are they going to legalise X rated films and R rated games in this country?”, he said. “Conservative politicians like Tony Abbott need to shift their fundamental attitudes to censorship, sex, gender and drug issues in this country and stop representing a minority view”.

When asked how he would be campaigning he said, “In Speedos. And unlike Marathon Man, I’ve got a Cockatoo to put in them”.

Austen Tayshus said that Marathon Man (aka Tony Abbott) was a crippled politician with the polio of church sex abuse shackling him at ever door stop. “We need a Royal Commission into religious institutions in this country to explain why it is that over 1000 church clergy have now been before the courts for horrendous behaviour”, he said.

He said he would make an excellent representative for the people of Sydney’s northern beaches and would not run away from anything. “I’ll even doorknock Sydney’s northern beaches in a mankini, if the Mad Monk will wear his Speedos”, he said.

Austen Tayshus said that Australia’s censorship laws, including the government’s proposed internet filter, were like laws framed by Bishops and Mullahs. “Labor are still committed to this filter even though it’s technically on hold. Stephen Conroy is telling us he’ll review the Refused Classification category but he’s not saying how he will then amend the R and X rated categories to sync with this.” He said he knew what it was like to be censored and even now the country’s number one selling single, ‘Australiana’, has had large sections of it removed from YouTube.
“If people want to hear that “he’s packed Bill-a-bong”, or that Anna has ‘plat-her-puss’ then as adults, they have a right to hear it. If adults want to be able to buy and sell R rated computer games and X rated DVDs, they should have the right. They do in New Zealand, Europe, the USA and other countries that have real separation of church and state.
